January 15 meeting: What are you watching around the world in 2025?
As the year begins, many of us are fixated on domestic issues (cabinet choices, insurance denials, exploding Teslas), there is a lot going on elsewhere in the world. This seems like a good time to share which world events we are tracking most closely in 2025 and what we expect/hope/fear may happen.
Is it Ukraine, where peace negotiations may begin? Is it Syria, where the new guys in power (we can’t even call them the “new government” yet) may or may not be better than the old ones? Is it Israel, which may or may not win greater security? Is it Sudan, where the world’s worst humanitarian crisis is unfolding?
Bring at least one example of what you are watching and where as 2025 starts to unfold. We can go around the table and exchange views on as many as we can.
If you want to share a short item that summarizes the situation you are watching, send them in email or post them yourselves in the comment box below.
I intend to comment on energy issues. But there was a fascinating piece this morning on the Fareed Zakaria GPS show that begs for further discussion.
ReplyDeleteIn his GPS “My Take” piece he offers: In elections around the world in 2024, left-of-center political parties fared especially badly, arguing that left-leaning government is in a state of crisis globally.
Is he right? What can and should be done? Have Dem's gone too far, what adjustments are required?
